Chintalapudi Fm
Type Locality and Naming
LANDWARD: Named after Chintalapudi town. The type section is located in the southeast direction of Chintalapudi town at a small hill. The hypostratotype is in the well Kommugudem-A (depth interval: 3570-3375 m). It was named after the Chintalapudi town by King (1880), and ONGC team headed by Venkatarengan et al. (1993) adopted it and issued as Document-VII by KDMIPE, ONGC, Dehradun (1993). [Original Publication: King, W. Lithology and Thickness
Sandstone. This formation consists of predominantly sandstone with cross laminations. It has a thickness of 195 m.

Lower contact
Unconformable with the Barakar Fm (see Gondwana Basins)
Upper contact
Unconformable with the Gollapalli Fm / Mandapeta Fm (but is partly coeval with the Mandapeta
Regional extent
Coeval with Kamthi Fm in Pranhita-Godavari Basin (Gondwana basins of Peninsular India)

Fossils
Plant fossils are Glossopteris species G. indica, G.angustifolia. G.communis, G.raniganjensis, G.intermedia, G.spathulata, G.liniaris, Vertibraria indica and Phyllotheca australis. Spore-pollen-Gaunipollenites, Striatopodocarpites striatites, Guttulapollenites, Weylandites and Lunatisporites (Prasad and Pundeer (1999)
